Amcrest WiFi camera set up

Things to consider before WiFi IP camera is set up

  • Make sure the WiFi router is not set up too far from the cameras
  • Make sure the cameras have sufficient bandwidth on your WiFi

How to Set up an Amcrest WiFi camera: 

  1. Install the ‘Amcrest Smart Home' app on your phone
  2. Login app with email/password ( Make sure you remember the password)
  3. Open the app, navigate to “Add Device” and “SCAN QR” (or manually enter the serial number of the camera): serial number or QR code can be found on a sticker at the bottom of the camera.
  4. Register the device, it will ask for the camera password. Enter password (Please remember this password)
  5. Connect the power adapter.  Connect the ethernet port from the camera to the router to initialize the setup.  You will see the camera live view on the app.
  6. Select the location on the app and click on the configure/setting gear button on the top right.
  7. Go to the WiFi setting >>Connect your camera to the WiFi network.  Select your WiFi and input your WiFi password.
  8. Disconnect the ethernet cable and make sure your camera is connected to the WiFi:
    1. A solid green light means that the camera is connected to WiFi
    2. Blinking green light means that the camera is not connected to WiFi
  9. Under the setting gear icon on the top right >>device info >> record the IP address.
  10. Once you have the IP address, go to the Spot dashboard and you will see the Amcrest camera. Authenticate that camera with username : admin and password :xxxx ( the one you set while registering the device) , RTSP port : 554 and RTSP stream : /cam/real monitor?channel=1&subtype=1
  11. You are all set with the spot dashboard and your WiFi camera

Troubleshooting Amcrest camera setup

If you see an issue with STEP 10, then reconnect the ethernet cable and go back to the Spot dashboard. You will see two Amcrest devices (one wired IP and one wireless IP).  Authenticate both and then remove the ethernet cable. Check if the device is still connected to WiFi. 

 

Why does my camera keep losing its WiFi connection?

  1. Unplug the camera, move it closer to the router, then plug the camera back in again.
    • If the camera works, then there may have been too much distance between the devices beforehand.  Install the camera closer to your internet router.
    • You can also purchase a WiFi extender to extend the range of your WiFi.
  2. If the camera still does not connect when it is right next to your router, then:
    • Disconnect other devices from your network
    • Connect your laptop to the WiFi and near the camera.  Check the WiFi signal strength, and run Speed Test (e.g. speedtest.net)
    • Talk to your internet provider about upgrading your bandwidth
